What do you think is more important – wisdom or intelligence? I know a great many intelligent people, most of whom are quite successful. They can discuss complex topics and demonstrate depth of knowledge on a variety of topics. In a serious debate they construct cogent arguments and cite facts and statistics fluidly. Some of these people, however, do not exhibit great decision making in their life choices. This is a bit surprising.

I have observed other people, some with little to no higher education, who do not appear intellectually gifted yet they make excellent decisions. These people seem to draw from their life experiences and observations as a supplement to their formal education. This might explain why a grandparent with much less education than their grandchildren can answer questions or offer sage advice that provides solutions or guidance.
Of course, to leverage experience into the ability to provide such advice should be considered a form of intelligence.

It seems to me that a combination of intelligence and wisdom is needed. This is why I think a team of people that consists of people with technical knowledge and those with extensive practical experience is a great combination. Even the most intelligent people need to apply that intelligence to real life situations. And in some cases the only way to leverage that brain power is by merging it with wisdom gained through experience.
